Hand, Wrist and Elbow Care

If you have been in an accident that has damaged your hands or wrists, suffer from a degenerative disease such as arthritis, or have a chronic injury such as tennis elbow, you know how frustrating it can be. Our orthopaedic hand, wrist and elbow specialists can help provide relief of pain, fix injuries and get you back to doing the things you miss.

Our Approach

At Augusta University, our board-certified, fellowship-trained, hand and upper extremity specialists focus specifically on injuries and conditions of the hands, wrists and elbows. This expertise is why other area orthopaedic practices refer their complex cases to us.
As the area’s only Level I (highest level) Trauma Center, we also provide care after severe accidents and injuries and have a surgeon who performs the most complex hand reconstruction surgery available at Augusta University Health.

We are the "go to" care providers for both simple and complex orthopaedic injuries and conditions of the hand, wrist and elbow.  We treat a variety of conditions such as:

  • Arthritis
  • Carpal tunnel syndrome
  • Dupuytren’s contracture
  • Golfer's elbow
  • Tendonitis
  • Tennis elbow
  • Trauma injuries
  • Trigger finger

When it comes to fixing hands, wrists and elbows, we offer treatment options that include both non-surgical and surgical procedures. We find that, often, the simplest procedure can greatly improve your quality of life.

Non-Surgical procedures

Our practice offers leading-edge treatments and expertise not available at other centers.  Our non-surgical procedures include:

  • Injections, to help reduce inflammation and pain for minor conditions.
  • Xiaflex injections or needle aponeurotomy, we have extensive experience with treating Dupuytren’s contracture using these procedures.
  • Occupational therapy, specifically for the hand, wrist and elbow, designed to reduce pain and improve flexion and range of motion.

Surgical procedures

If you need surgery, we will evaluate your condition with the input of specialized physicians and orthopaedic surgeons to design a surgical solution that is customized for you.  Some of the surgeries we perform are:

  • Carpal tunnel release, to stop pain, numbness and tingling in the hand or arm due to nerve compression in the wrist.

  • Fusion surgeries, for arthritis, which provide tremendous improvement for painful arthritic conditions.

  • Joint replacement, due to arthritis. Our practice commonly performs these complex procedures on elbows and other joints of the hand and wrist.

  • Nerve repair, using microsurgery to fix damage to the nerves.

  • Tendon transfer, to improve hand function after injury and restore movement.

  • Thumb arthritis procedures, for relief of pain and swelling in joints.

  • Trigger finger release, for curled or locked fingers.

  • Simple surgical procedures for "Aging-related" issues, such as numbness, tingling, and night pain in the arms and hands.
