Augusta University Medical Center has been recognized by the College of Healthcare Information Management Executives (CHIME) in 2023 for our team’s exceptional dedication to excellence in digital health for patients as a LEVEL 7 ACUTE and LEVEL 7 AMBULATORY digital health provider.
Level I Emergency Cardiac Care Center
Augusta University Medical Center has been designated as a Level I Emergency Cardiac Care Center by the Georgia Department of Public Health, Office of EMS and Trauma. The designation is for a period of three (3) years, ending December 31, 2026.

Breast Health
AU Health's commitment to breast cancer diagnosis, treatment, and prevention has made us the go-to destination for all your breast health concerns:
- The Augusta University Breast Health Center is designated as aBreast Imaging Center of Excellence by The American College of Radiology (ACR) accrediting AU Medical Center in all radiography modalities - mammography, breast ultrasound, breast MRI, and stereotactic breast biopsy.
- The National Accreditation Program for Breast Centers (NAPBC) from the American College of Surgeons has recognized AU Medical Center and Georgia Cancer Center for their dedication to quality care for patients with diseases of the breast.
Bariatrics and Weight Care
The American College of Surgeons (ACS) and the American Society for Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery (ASMBS) offer a joint program- Metabolic and Bariatric Surgery Accreditation and Quality (MBSAQIP ) - that recognizes Augusta University Center for Obesity and Metabolism as a center that goes through a rigorous review process to show that it can maintain certain physical resources, human resources, and standards of practice in bariatric care.
Cancer Care
Georgia Cancer Center has earned national accreditation from the Commission on Cancer for meeting 34 quality care standards set by the American College of Surgeons (ACS).
CEO Cancer Gold Standard: We have received reaccreditation for maintaining a strong commitment to the health of our employees through risk reduction, early detection and quality care. We do this by taking measures in prevention, screening, clinical trial access, treatment and survivorship, and health education and promotion for employees. AU Medical Center has been a Gold Standard healthy employer since 2014.
Healthcare Equality
Human Rights Campaign (HRC) Foundation, the nation’s largest advocacy organization for lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer civil rights, designates Augusta University Health as a Healthcare Equality Index (HEI) "Leader".
Heart and Cardiovascular
American College of Cardiology (ACC) has accredited the Augusta University Cardiovascular Center as meeting all requirements needed to demonstrate expertise and commitment in treating patients. Our accreditations are for:
- Electrophysiology
- Cardiac Cath Lab with PCI
- Chest Pain Center - Primary PCI with Resuscitation
Intersocietal Accreditation Commission (IAC) has recognized AU Health with 20-year Echocardiography Bronze Accreditation in all three echocardiography components:
- Adult transthoracic echocardiography
- Transesophageal echocardiography
- Stress echocardiography
The American Association of Cardiovascular and Pulmonary Rehabilitation (AACVPR) program certification is the only peer-reviewed accreditation process designed to review individual facilities for adherence to standards and guidelines developed and published by the AACVPR and other professional societies.

US Center for Medicare and Medicaid Services has recognized AU Health as aDNV Credentialed VAD Program, having met all requirements for quality and patient safety.

AU Medical Center has achieved accreditation in all radiography modalities by the ACR (American College of Radiology)
- CT ( computerized tomography) – abdomen, cardiac, chest, head/neck.
- MRI (magnetic resonance imaging) - Body, cardiac, head, MRA, MSK, spine.
- PET (positron emission tomography)
Neurology
- Multiple Sclerosis: Accredited by the National Multiple Sclerosis Society as a Center for Comprehensive MS Care.
- Epilepsy: We are an accredited level 4 adult/pediatric Comprehensive Epilepsy Center by the NAEC (National Association of Epilepsy Centers).
- ALS: The ALS Association (ALSA) recognizes our ALS Center as a Center of Excellence, confirming that it meets the highest levels of established national standards of care in the management of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS).
- Parkinson’s: The Movement Disorders Clinic at AU Medical Center earned a five-year extension as a National Parkinson’s Foundation Center of Excellence, a designation held since 2002, when it became the first hospital in Georgia to earn this.
Obstetrics
AU Medical Center has the region’s only certified 24/7 Obstetrics Emergency Department (OBED) within its Labor and Delivery unit.
Organ donation
The U.S. Department of Health and Human Services and Human Services Health Resources and Services Administration recognized AU Medical Center with Platinum Award in the Workplace Partnership for Life Hospital Campaign. The award recognizes AU Health's efforts to encourage organ and tissue donation by conducting awareness and registration campaigns. The medical center earns points for activities like donor registration events, Donate Life Month and Honor Walks. Enough points were accumulated through these efforts to earn a platinum award, the highest a hospital can achieve.
Pediatrics
- Our Cleft and Craniofacial Center is an ACPA Approved Team and has met the Standards of Team Care for Cleft and Craniofacial Teams set by the American Cleft Palate Craniofacial Association (ACPA). The ACPA Commission on the Approval of Teams has determined that the Cleft and Craniofacial Center is capable of providing cleft and craniofacial care in a coordinated and consistent manner, that care provided by Cleft and Craniofacial Center follows the proper sequence and takes place within the framework of the patient’s overall developmental, medical and psychological needs. All approved teams in the U.S. and Canada are listed on the ACPA website.
- Supporters of “Image Gently” by the Alliance for Radiation Safety in Pediatric CT Imaging.
- ECMO: Children's hospital of Georgia is a ECMO Center of Excellence and has receive the ELSO Award, recognized by 'U.S. News and World Report' and Parents magazine as criteria for top pediatric hospitals. CHOG has high ECMO survival rates, according to data published by the Extracorporeal Life Support Organization, an international non-profit health care consortium that sets the standards for ECMO and other therapies that support failing organ systems.
Trauma
American College of Surgeons recognizes AUMC and CHOG as a verified Adult level 1 and Pediatric Level 2 Trauma Center.
