ACPA Approved Team

Children's Hospital of Georgia Cleft and Craniofacial Center is listed as an ACPA Approved Team by the American Cleft Palate Craniofacial Association (ACPA).

Some children may need orthodontic treatment in addition to cleft or craniofacial surgery to help guide the growth and development of their face. Orthodontic care is done to improve the look and function of the mouth and teeth using a long-term treatment plan which will include phases of active treatment combined with periods where no treatment will be necessary.

Our orthodontist is also trained in Nasoalveolar Molding (NAM) technique for unilateral and bilateral cleft lip and palate.

Our interdisciplinary team has appointments available each month where your child can be evaluated by pediatric plastic surgeons, otolaryngologists, orthodontists, speech therapists and audiologists - all in one visit – to provide your family with greater convenience and an improved continuity of care.

What if my unborn baby has a cleft or craniofacial condition?

If you are pregnant, and your baby has been diagnosed with a cleft or craniofacial condition while in utero, come see us. Mothers-to-be can schedule prenatal consultations with our plastic surgeons to answer any questions prior to delivery.

We also believe in a patient- and family-centered approach that encourages parents and caregivers to be a major part of creating their child’s treatment plan.
