The Children’s Hospital of Georgia works with Augusta University Health in diagnosing and treating pediatric patients with endocrine disorders by offering:

  • Multidisciplinary Care: Our board-certified pediatric endocrinologists work with pediatric specialists including pediatric ophthalmologists (eye), genetic counselors, child psychologists and other caregivers in managing and treating hormonal and metabolic disorders.  
  • Diabetes Education: Our certified diabetes educator works one-on-one with children and parents and is easily accessible for telephone and email counseling and support.
  • Registered Dietitians: help patients manage diabetes through proper nutrition.
  • Clinical Research: We strive to find better and more effective treatments through research into childhood diabetes.
  • Patient-and-family-centered care: We want families and caregivers to be part of the decision-making process, and be actively involved in providing input into the care of their children.

Dedicated Programs and Centers

Augusta University Health offers care for pediatric patients with hormonal and metabolic disorders. Our patients can take advantage of access to our: 

  • Adrenal Center: Providing complete care for patients with all aspects of the adrenal diseases and disorders.
  • Diabetes Care Center: Our center offers educational classes with emphasis placed on patient education to develop self-management skills critical to improving everyday health and blood sugar levels to reduce future chronic diabetic complications.
  • Pediatric Diabetes Management Program: The pediatric diabetes team at Augusta University Medical Center sponsors the only pediatric diabetes management program in the area, helping about 350 children each year manage diabetes and live full and active lives.

We diagnose and treat many hormone and metabolic disorders that affect children such as:

  • Addison’s disease
  • Congenital adrenal hyperplasia
  • Calcium or bone disorders
  • Cushing’s disease
  • Type 1 Diabetes (juvenile diabetes)
  • Type 2 Diabetes
  • Graves’ diseases
  • Hashimoto’s disease
  • Delayed/early-onset Puberty
  • Sexual development disorders
  • Short stature

It’s important that our patients and their families feel confident in us and know we are there for them, that’s why we offer many ways for them to connect with us, or with other patients who are in their same situation, by offering:

  • Camp Sweet Life, a pediatric diabetes support group
  • Medical social worker, who helps patients and their families’ access resources.
  • Child Life Specialists, who help children to understand and cope with their diagnosis and care.
