Orthopaedic Cancer Care

The division of orthopaedic oncology at Augusta University Medical Center offers diagnosis and treatment for adults and children with musculoskeletal tumors.

Our Approach

Musculoskeletal tumors can be either non-cancerous (benign) or cancerous (malignant). Malignant tumors of bone and soft tissue are called sarcomas. Sarcomas are some of the rarest tumors in medicine and require treatment by specialists with expertise in orthopaedic cancers.

For our sarcoma patients we provide multidisciplinary care in the region’s only comprehensive cancer care center - the Georgia Cancer Center - where our patients receive state-of-the-art, quality care and support to help them live healthy, fulfilling lives.

Our orthopaedic oncologists also treat patients with other malignancies that affect the musculoskeletal system including:

  • Metastatic disease
  • Fractures
  • Trauma
  • Arthritis
  • Avascular necrosis
  • Osteoporosis
  • Infections

Our orthopaedic oncologists are part of a sarcoma team which includes medical, surgical, and radiation oncologists, specialized pathologists, musculoskeletal radiologists, and other specialists. Our goal is to maximize the function of each patient with advanced surgical and reconstructive techniques.

See more information about bone cancer and sarcoma treatments at the Georgia Cancer Center.
