Augusta University Health has the region’s largest team of certified athletic trainers. Chances are, if your son or daughter plays a sport, the medical professionals you
see tending to them are from Augusta University Health.
What makes our athletic trainers stand out
We are not personal trainers, we are licensed allied health professionals, earning
a four-year degree and passing a national board examination. We are trained to evaluate,
diagnose, treat, and rehabilitate everything from concussions to sprained ankles.
Think of us this way, we are like a physician, a physical therapist, a nurse, and
a paramedic - all rolled into one.
What we do
We see patients in our West Wheeler location, but most of the time, we are out in
the community - at sports practices, home games, even some away games. We are there
to provide quality care and education to athletes so they can perform at their best.
Athletic trainers are often an athlete’s main source of primary health care. The following
are some of the services we provide:
- Pre-season physicals
- Cardiac screenings
- Teaching athletes the right mechanics to avoid injury
- Concussion education
Building the future of sports medicine
Through our program, athletic trainers are able to teach classes at local high schools.
They talk to students about careers in the health field and sports medicine, offering
education and advice about a future in this exciting profession.
Every March, more than 200 students get to spend a day at Augusta University Medical
Center (AUMC) and will tour the Medical College of Georgia and the College of Allied Health at Augusta University.
