Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery
Pediatric Orthopedic Surgery
Our Approach
The skilled orthopedic surgeons at Children’s Hospital of Georgia provide surgical
care for children of all ages from newborn babies and toddlers to children, adolescents,
teens and young adults up to age 21.
Why Choose Us
We are the only area hospital with an orthopedic surgery program dedicated to treating
musculoskeletal trauma, spine problems, sports injuries, degenerative diseases, infections,
tumors, and congenital diseases in children.
Our multidisciplinary surgical team include pediatric orthopedic surgeons, anesthesiologists,
and certified nurses, who perform surgery in operating rooms designated just for children.
Conditions We Treat
If your child has an injury that affects normal movement and function, it is critical
to receive care from a pediatric orthopedist. We design individualized treatment plans
for each child because every child’s skeletal maturity is unique to them and is based
on their own personal growth and developmental milestones.
Our orthopedic surgeons see patients for:
- Bone cancers and tumors
- Brachial plexus palsy
- Broken bones
- Cerebral palsy
- Club foot
- Congenital limb defects
- Hip Dysplasia
- Knee reconstruction
- Leg length discrepancy
- Scoliosis
- Spina bifida
- Spine problems
- Spondylolysis
- Other conditions
Sometimes your child might be having a difficult time dealing with an injury or condition.
Child Life Specialists are available for them to talk to and will help them understand and cope with their
diagnosis and treatment.
Surgical Procedures
Our orthopedic surgeons are trained to perform surgeries on pediatric patients. Depending
on the type of surgery your child needs, surgeons are trained to perform,
- Open surgeries: For more complex surgeries such as placing pins or bracing bones.
- Minimally Invasive Surgery (MIS): Some procedures may be performed using arthroscopic surgeries, which have smaller
incisions and less scarring and pain.
- Cancer Surgery: When patients have musculoskeletal tumors, we offer the area’s only pediatric orthopedic
oncologist who specializes in surgical care of children with both malignant and benign
tumors. We provide an entire team of cancer experts, as well as cancer research and
clinical trials for patients.
Post-surgical support care
Following surgery, our patients will be seen by specially trained therapists who care
exclusively for children in a dedicated pediatric rehabilitation center where they
will be able to regain function and mobility.
