Dr. David Zabel joins us as Professor of Surgery and the Chief of Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery in the division of plastic surgery. He graduated college with a degree in biomedical and polymer engineering at Case Western Reserve University, Cleveland, Ohio and attended medical school at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine, Cincinnati, Ohio. He completed his general surgery residency at the Medical Center of Delaware and during this time completed a two-year research fellowship at the University of California, San Francisco in the wound healing research laboratory. He then completed his plastic surgery fellowship at the University of Pittsburgh, Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. He is a retired Commander in the United States Navy Reserve. Dr. Zabel comes to us after 24 years in practice having recently stepped down as the Chief of Plastic Surgery of Christiana Care Health Systems in Newark, Delaware along with an associated faculty appointment in the Department of Biomedical Engineering at the University of Delaware. His clinical interests include complex abdominal wall reconstruction and wound care, along with offering the spectrum of plastic surgery in surgical dermatology, hand and upper extremity surgery, cosmetic surgery, craniofacial surgery and general reconstruction after cancer, burns and trauma. Dr. Zabel and his wife Kathy are excited to re-locate to the greater Augusta area and look forward to having their four adult children Zoe and Katie (Texas), Brad (Maryland) and Andrew (Delaware) experience all the southeast has to offer.
