Dr. Dexter is a 2015 graduate of the University of Kansas School of Medicine. She completed her General Psychiatry residency at the Medical College of Georgia followed by a fellowship in Forensic Psychiatry at University of South Carolina School of Medicine in Columbia, South Carolina. Dr. Dexter has previously served as attending physician on a forensic psychiatric unit at East Central Regional Hospital in Augusta, Georgia and has collaborated in re-establishing a forensic psychiatry fellowship with the Medical College of Georgia. Recently, Dr. Dexter accepted a new position serving as the Director of Emergency Psychiatric Services for Augusta University Health. Dr. Dexter enjoys clinical teaching, working with residents and students from the departments of Emergency Medicine and Psychiatry. She is engaged in teaching activities with preclinical medical students as well. With her forensic training, Dr. Dexter has an interest in risk assessment and mitigation. She continues to serve as a forensic consultant in a variety of civil and criminal proceedings through the Augusta University Forensic Institute and offers an elective experience for general psychiatry residents to gain exposure to the field of forensic psychiatry.
