Nicole Wimmer graduated from the Medical College of Georgia School of Nursing (now Augusta University College of Nursing) in 1997 with a Bachelors of Science in Nursing. Nicole completed her Masters of Science in Nursing from Vanderbilt University School of Nursing in 2004 and became a certified Pediatric Nurse Practitioner. She began her nursing career as a registered nurse in 1997 on the pediatric inpatient floor of the Children's Hospital of Georgia and then worked in the pediatric emergency department before transitioning to case management for the division of Pediatric Pulmonology, including being the center coordinator for the Pediatric Cystic Fibrosis center for two years. After completing her NP training, Nicole worked part-time at Palmetto Pediatrics providing pediatric primary care to infants and children, while teaching at the School of Nursing. In 2008, Nicole rejoined the division of Pediatric Pulmonology full time as a Nurse Practitioner.
Nicole's clinical practice at Augusta University Children's Hospital of Georgia is primarily focused on outpatient management of children and newborns with Cystic Fibrosis, patients with asthma, chronic lung disease related to prematurity/bronchopulmonary dysplasia and other complex respiratory complications. She also actively participates in CF research and quality improvement projects. Her clinic interests are CF disease management and prevention, CF genetics, CF related metabolic disorders and asthma management.
