Interventional Cardiology

Dr. Sharkawi earned his medical degree at the Royal College of Surgeons in Ireland, where he graduated with honors. He completed his residency in Internal Medicine at Lahey Hospital and Medical Center, Tufts University School of Medicine, where he was selected as Chief Medical Resident. He completed his fellowship training in Cardiovascular Disease at the University of Connecticut program. He then completed a two-year advanced fellowship training program in Interventional Cardiology and Structural Heart Disease at Brigham and Women’s Hospital, Harvard Medical School. He has participated in clinical research involving risk stratification of patients being considered for percutaneous versus surgical aortic valve replacement, improving resource utilization for patients being treated with ST elevation myocardial infarctions, as well as studying the mechanisms of in-stent restenosis following percutaneous coronary intervention. His clinical interests are percutaneous therapies for valvular heart diseases, complex coronary interventions and cardiac critical care.
